Rachel Zoe Halloween Costume

Still haven't figured out your Halloween costume yet?
Well, I have just the costume for you to make everyone go b-a-n-a-n-a-s!

Last year I dressed up as the fabulous Rachel Zoe! Although I was scrubbing the red lip stain off my face for a week, it is quite fun to act like her for an evening :)
It's pretty easy & most of the items are probably already in your closet or can be found at Forever 21.  Be sure to watch a few episodes of the Rachel Zoe Project to brush up on her  infamous lingo!
B A N A N A S ! ! !

The Essentials:
High black boots
Huge diamond ring
loads of gold jewelry (bangles, necklaces, earrings, watch)
Oversized circular sunnies
Bright red lip (always have your mouth slightly open)
Fur jacket or vest
simple black or leopard print top
Black pants or leggings
Big floppy hat or fedora
Messy beach wave curls

Bonus Points:
Dress up your other half as her shaggy haired husband, Rodger or your little boy as her fedora wearing son, Skyler!

Miami Bound!

Neon, neon, and more neon!!

I am headed to Miami this week for my cousin's bachelorette party with 12 California girls for a weekend of debauchery!
We are beyond excited- I keep catching myself yelling, "I'm in Miami, Bitch!"

My outfits are all planned and my suitcase is jam packed with colorful ViX bikinis, Forever 21 accessories, and party dresses.

Let the countdown to Wednesday begin!

P.S- How cute are these DIY glitterized champagne flutes we made?  We added some good ol' Martha Stewart glue to the bottom and doused them in bright glitter.
They are all packed and ready for some South Beach cocktails!

Weekend Getaway: Tiburon

Oh Tiburon!
My new favorite hidden gem tucked away right across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Last weekend, I surprised my boyfriend with a weekend getaway to Tiburon for his birthday.  It is the cutest little town full of sweeping ocean views, fancy homes, biking trails, greenery, and eateries.
The birthday boy's itinerary!
We spent the morning sipping on mimosas and bloody mary's on the deck of Sam's Anchor Cafe, which overlooks the bustling yacht harbor.
Brunching at Sam's Anchor Cafe with good friends

Then we made our way up the street to Guaymas, an upscale mexican restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating and beautiful views of the San Francisco skyline and Angel Island.

Tequila time at Guaymas
Our hotel, The Lodge at Tiburon, was cozy and newly remodeled.  We were blocks away from the water, downtown area, and great views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

On Sunday, we hopped on the 10 minute ferry ride to Angel Island.  We rented bikes and rode around the whole island, which only took about an hour.  Our favorite part!

Until next time, Tiburon!

Day Trip to Angel Island

Searching for an afternoon destination to get a breath of fresh air and escape the hustle and bustle of the city?
Angel Island is your perfect escape when the weather is nice!  The island is home to a historic army camp, an old immigration station and is currently a California State Park.  Just a short and easy ferry ride from San Francisco or Tiburon, the island is full of activities for an afternoon getaway.  Many of miles of hiking trails, hidden beaches, history, and mountain biking awaits the adventurous weekend warriors.
Ferry from Tiburon to Angel Island
Abandoned Army buildings scattered
throughout Perimeter Rd.
Rent bikes at the Cove Cafe for $12.50 an hour. Or better yet, bring your own bike from home (they are welcome on the ferry!) Head onto Perimeter Road which will take you around the whole island for five miles.  Starts out a bit like a mountain bike trail followed by a nicely paved road.

Keep your eyes peeled for spectacular views of the city skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge!  Pack a picnic lunch, and set up camp at one of the picnic tables with a view.
Not the athletic type? Gain some knowledge aboard the Tram Tour which takes about an hour and drives you along the whole island.  Or post up at the Oyster Bar and listen to live music.

Now that is a view!

DIY Photo Booth

A DIY photo booth is a perfect addition to any party.
All you really need are a few items: creative props, a festive backdrop, and a camera on a tri-pod.

For my cousin's bridal shower last weekend, My sister and I created our own version. Although a few hours are needed to create one, it is well worth it! Everyone loved it and the photos are priceless!
An assortment of props!

  • The backdrop was inspired by this project here, crepe paper fringe streamers.  I ordered crepe paper from this site and bought 3 different colors: white, black, and light pink and shredded away!
  • To add some spice, I layered the crepe streamers with a sparkly silver fringe curtain against a white sheet.
  • We pinned each layer to the top of the white sheet and glued the top of the sheet around a long wooden dowel.
  • We hung the wooden dowel up and ta-dah, we had a backdrop!
  • For props: I scoured the internet for free printable props.  Here is what I used: glasses, bows, hats, moustaches, love words, and lips.  I printed them out on heavy cardstock and exacto knifed them all out.  Then I hot glued each item onto its own skewer.
  • I placed all the skewers into a glitterized mason jar and set them an arms reach away from the backdrop.
  • I designated one person as the photographer and they snapped away!
Isn't the bride adorable?!
Let me know how your photo booth adventures turn out!

The Cinemagram App

Have you heard of the app Cinemagram yet?
Mind boggling, right?
I was just introduced to this iPhone app over the weekend by the ladies at brit.co.
Cinemagram lets you create pictures that move, almost like a GIF.  But there is a catch, you get to choose which part of the photo moves!  First, you take a short video of the scene you wish to capture.  Then, you select which part of the video you would like to move.  The rest of the video will stay still, like a photo.  Oh ya, and the app is free in the app store!  The opportunities are endless on what to capture next.
Here are a few cinemagrams my boyfriend and I created over the weekend....
Okay, this one is a BIT creepy

The app reminds me a lot of instagram.  You can follow people, like  other peoples photos  and it has its own feed so you can see what videos your friends are coming up with!

Are you on cinemagram yet?

Weekend Getaway: Santa Ynez Valley

Last weekend my family and I meandered our way down the 101 to the Santa Ynez Valley for a weekend getaway.  We spent our days wine tasting at boutique wineries, eating italian food, and soaking up the sunshine and rolling hill views.

Our home for the weekend
We stayed here, which I found on VRBO.com-my favorite site ever for vacation rentals!  The ranch-style house was perfect for a large group and included a game room, enough beds for 5 couples, bocce ball court, and a bunch of outdoor seating.  The owner was great and always responsive to any of my questions I had regarding the rental.

On Saturday, we hopped in a limo and wrapped our way up Foxen Canyon Road to visit a few wineries. We started at Tres Hermanas, a quaint, no frills boutique winery.   Then we headed to Demetria Winery, a great stop for a picnic lunch with amazing views.  Our picnic table was tucked away in the trees just beyond the tasting room.  We picked our lunch up in the morning from Panino in Los Olivos.

We finished the weekend off by playing at a friends ranch and eating at Grappolo's, a tiny Italian hotspot in Santa Ynez.  The bruschetta, margherita pizza, and linguine mare monte were some of our favorites!

Until next time, Santa Ynez!

Broccoli Bean Salad & Treat!

This quick and easy salad is one of my favorite things to eat for lunch.  The cannellini beans are protein packed and will keep you feeling full! I usually make a big batch on Sunday night and package it up into containers to take with me for lunch throughout the week.

 Ingredients:
1 can cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 cup uncooked broccoli, chopped
1 handful of grape tomatoes
1 cup fresh mozzarella, cut into chunks

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in bowl.
Make dressing: 2 coarsely chopped garlic cloves, salt and pepper to taste, 1 part balsamic vinegar to 2 parts extra virgin olive oil.  If possible, let the salad sit overnight so the dressing gets absorbed into the ingredients.

One more thing:
Have you heard about Treat yet?
It is Tiny Prints new partner site where you can easily customize greeting cards online in a few seconds!  Add your own photos, personalized text, and even gift cards to the greeting.  You can also have it shipped directly to the recipient as well!
Be sure to go online now and order your first card for free using promo code: FREETREAT.
